PAINTING THE TOWN
Malcolm Hundley
12-22 September
Opening night 6pm, Thursday 12 September 2024
Open daily 10am – 4pm
In his latest exhibition, Painting the Town, Malcolm Hundley continues the task of documenting the urban landscape of Fremantle and surrounds.
Topics of the 46 paintings on show include Fremantle buildings, the Port of Fremantle, North Fremantle, East Fremantle Oval prior to the recent redevelopment, and various views from around the town.
The motivation for Malcolm’s work is varied. He is inspired by the clear and distinctive light of West coast Australia, and this is well captured by the hard-edged style of his paintings. He sees the depiction of the urban landscape as akin to a drama set into which the viewer can place themselves. Many local collectors comment about the familiarity of the subject matter and that a painting gives them cause to ponder a site they may ordinarily walk or drive past without giving much consideration.
