Remember Paris, wordmark

drawings by

Julie Podstolski

and sculpture by

Robyn Varpins

Open 7 days, 10am – 4pm

Julie Podstolski is an established West Australian artist who combines coloured pencils and oil pastels on watercolour paper. Remember Paris features 28 new drawings celebrating la Ville Lumière (the City of Light).
The exhibition also features clay sculptures by invited artist Robyn Varpins. Robyn’s practice involves building clay into intimate expressions of the human form, and ranges from realistic to abstract. Her coloured clay figures created for this exhibition make intriguing companions to Julie’s Parisian drawings.
Julie trained in painting, graduating with a Diploma of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 1980. After moving to Australia in 1982, Julie began exploring coloured pencils. During the past 24 months she has added oil pastel to her process, creating rich drawings layered with blending, blurring, luminous colours.
When in Paris, Julie pursues flânerie – the art of unhurried wandering and observation. She varies her times and arrondissements, photographing urban scenes which inspire her.
Back home in Australia she uses her photographs to transport her back to those experiences. During each drawing her mind inhabits Paris, even as she sits at her easel in South Fremantle.
Reconnect with your own Parisian memories as you travel through this exhibition.
