Jacinda Bayne – White Sands, Red Dust

Jacinda Bayne has just returned from five weeks exploring the northern WA coastline and the Pilbara recording the journey in watercolour sketches. Watercolour is an integral part of her painting process because it allows her to capture marks and colours without the need to set up easels and painting palettes. This immediacy is especially important to her aim to capture light that is constantly changing, particularly at dawn and dusk.

The pressure to do justice to the extraordinary landscapes was mitigated by time and conditions; out in the heat in harsh and sometimes dangerous places without the luxury of hours to ponder or procrastinate the resultant body of work is direct, honest and rich in experience. These watercolour records and sketches are a visual diary of the colour and light Jacinda found in these incredible surroundings.

Simon Wilson – Solace

Simon Wilson’s works, made using unique methods to stencil tonal layers of charcoal onto paper, form psychological portraits that touch on notions of alienation, social tension and salvation. They utilize irreverence, absurdity and a sense of unfamiliarity to explore the contradictions and connections between our inner and outer worlds.
