It is the traveler only who is foreign*
And as travellers we carry responsibilities of cultural understanding, respect for those whose land is familiar to them, to present ourselves humbly, with good humour and with abandonment of our assumptions.
Portraiture can be a demand, or a response. In this work, the people with whom I’ve crossed paths present themselves, to my call that is true, but with a sense of the reciprocity that reflects on an innate wish as humans: a desire to discover, and to be discovered, to express our beingness, to allow our boundaries to be porous, till what we were no longer knows itself.
